- We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Gainesville Community Fest on Saturday. It was a pleasure to see and talk with the dedicated locals there, including Monicas Cococastile Soap, Luellabird, Sequential Artists Workshop, The 8th Ave Bike & Coffee House, The Flour Pot Bakery, Lubee Bat Conservancy, Gainesville Roller Rebels, Cotton & Silk, Floating Lotus Spa, MarcPaperScissor, Dragonfly Graphics, Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine, A Personal Elf, Civic Media Center, and WGOT-LP.(Apologies to any we missed!)

- Alachua County is looking to relax tree cover rules in new developments.
This sounds like a developers dream.
We don’t like it one bit.
No matter how you feel about this matter, attend the meeting (if possible). Call us NIMBYs, but this IS our backyard they’re debating! - Congressman Stearns has proposed the government sell some public lands. You can read about it here, and we hope you do read this. This seems to us a ridiculous proposition.
- Pizza update: Blue Highway Pizzeria has updated their facebook page to suggest they may be re-opening their Tioga location soon. And the loving repair of Satchel’s is underway.
- Too early to start planning for the upcoming weekend?

This weekend is the Spring Garden Festival: March 24 (9am-5pm) & 25 (10am-5pm) 2012 This is Gainesville’s premier horticultural event. The Spring Garden Festival features about 200 booths offering plants, landscape displays, garden accessories, arts and crafts, educational exhibits and, of course, foods. Also featured… are a walk-through butterfly conservatory, children’s activities area, live entertainment and live auctions. Parking is free and two off-site parking areas are serviced by shuttle buses. Admission is $8 for Adults and $5 for children one to thirteen. Cash only (no credit cards) at these events. A $2 discount is given for members of Kanapaha. A $1 discount is given for individuals wearing any past Spring Garden Festival t-shirt. Pets are not allowed at these festivals. Don’t miss it!
