Celebrating Independent Gainesville

Thrive, Grow, and Community

We’re excited about tomorrow–morning drinks (i.e., tea and/or coffee) at Flashbacks Cafe with Thrive Handicrafts, then a planning meeting with Grow Radio.

Yes, we’ll be doing a radio show (hopefully). Indiegainesville on the airwaves! Stay tuned for updates–and requests for input–on this.

(Whoops–that pun was NOT intended. Apologies.)

And we’re also excited to announced that as part of their Community Voices program, the Hipp is holding following event:

Theatre professor and playwright Dr. Charlie Mitchell will host this workshop at the Hipp on developing character and voice.  Both beginning and experienced writers will come away with useful tools for creating a character and monologue from scratch.  This hands-on seminar will include both lecture and writing components.  Just bring your pen and paper.

Dr. Charlie Mitchell is an assistant professor of theatre at the University of Florida.  He received a BFA from Ithaca College in acting, an MA from Boston University in playwriting and a PhD in Theatre from the University of Colorado at Boulder.  He has penned two full-length plays, several one-acts, the book and lyrics for two musicals, and a variety of short pieces for children. He has also directed numerous plays and musicals and has worked as an actor in Chicago, Baltimore, and New York City.

The workshop is free, but we request an RSVP by Friday, February 17.  If you would like to know more or RSVP, email Matt at mlindsay@thehipp.org or call (352) 373-5968 ext 243.

We hope you’ll note that tomorrow is the deadline to RSVP. You don’t want to miss this event!
