Celebrating Independent Gainesville

First Artwalk of 2012, and why it’s special

We apologize for not posting as much this week, but you all still amaze us. We’ve topped 7,000 views now for three days. Either work really IS that boring and there’s nothing else on the internet, or you like us.

Whatever the case, thanks again.

Now, this post isn’t a full weekend planner. We’ll post that later today.

After spending a week or so being feverish and feeling, well, “ugh” comes to mind, we finally got a high-five from a doctor who confirmed that we are on the mend.

Just in time! Tonight, after all, is the last Friday of the month. And in downtown indiegainesville, that means one beautiful thing:

ART WALK!

Here’s your handy guide to January 2012′s Art Walk:

Art Walk!

If we to be more excited about this Art Walk than others, we are. This uncurbed enthusiasm stems from the hopes that you’ll help fight against the January Doldrums and take advantage of the cooler (but not cold) weather tonight. . .

. . . and from the fact that the Sequential Artist Workshop is having its grand opening! From their Facebook event page:

SAW Grand Opening and Book launch party/gallery show for Derek Ballard’s Cartoon Show

At SAW, SE 5th Ave at Main Street, (behind Citizen’s Co-Op.)

SAW is proud to open its doors to the public and showcase Gainesville comix artist Derek Ballard and his new book, Cartoon Show.

Derek Ballard has worked extensively as an illustrator and t-shirt designer, and has had comics published in Vice, Juxtapoz, Beautiful/Decay, Faesthetic, Typhon, Thickness and others. Cartoon Show is his first book collection. Ballard’s comics are a combination of intense adult imagery rooted in visionary science fiction, 80s style and modern street art, drawn with bold, angular brush strokes, vivid colors, and a futuristic originality.

Please note: Derek Ballard’s work is NOT FOR CHILDREN. (Future SAW shows will be family friendly!)

Stop by SAW and give them a warm indiegainesville welcome.
Help the merchants end a notoriously slow month on a high note.
And maybe we’ll see you tonight?
